Perfection! Easy, and makes DVDs to play anywhere!
I just finished transfering 13 hours of Hi8 tapes to DVD, and also tranfered some old home movies on VHS to DVD. I tried the DVDs I made in 3 different DVD players, and 3 different computers in my home, and each played perfectly!

A Good Dual-Use Recorder, *if* You Find the Right Brand DVD's
I've had very mixed feelings about this unit. I bought it in mid-2005 because it seemed like a good dual-use recorder. I could record my old videotapes to DVD, and then also easily burn copies by using it as an external computer burner. Well, I've had mixed success but I believe I've ultimately found how to optimize the drive.

This is a VERY unreliable DVD Recorder (Finalize Error)
I purchased it as a solution to recordong my video tapes onto DVD's. However, out of a bundle pack of DVDs, at least 30% have "FINALIZE ERROR". I figured out and there are some compatibility problems. If you are thinking on purchasing this unit, please make sure you have that list, and you know for sure that not every DVD recordable media is compatible with this unit. As a matter of fact, just a few brands. Hopefully SONY should release a better unit sometime soon...
