First Impressions Only - But Not Very Happy
I've only had this recorder for a day, and am still trying to figure it out. But my first reactions aren't good. I mostly want to record from VHS to DVD, but the controls are a long way from being intuitive, and the manual is confusing to say the least (and hey, here's a wild idea for Samsung - how about an alphabetized index?)

Good product overall with minor glitches
This unit performs well as a DVD/VHS recorder and player. I have had no problems recording to a DVD or VHS or playing back any other tapes or DVDs I have. It has a lot of good options, easy to set up, a very good manual and uses a wide variety of DVD media for recording. The glitches are really more annoyances than technical problems. For one, when you turn it on or insert/eject a disc or tape, it automatically switches to "VCR" mode which means your TV picture turns to noise if you aren't on channel 3/4 or have the appropriate TV input selected. This is really a minor complaint but it is aggravating. It would be nice to turn this feature off and leave it up to the user to select the "VCR" mode. The other thing is the remote control. It has a very unusual wedge shape which is difficult for me to hold firmly and it tends to slide off the table. One technical thing I have noticed is that some of the higher numbered channels from my cable company (65 and higher) have a lot of noise when tuned through the Samsung unit. Also, when taping a program, while watching another channel on tv, some channels are noisy whiled recording is taking place. This only happens on two or three channels from channel 5 through 9. I have no idea what is causing this. Otherwise I am very happy with this device.

Great product
This is my third DVD recorder. It is the best of all. The on screen programming was a little hard to get use to. All in all, a great value.
