Won't play after 3 months
I purchased this boombox for my daughter's room. Basically, we put in a CD at bedtime, and set the sleep timer for 30 minutes. NOT heavy or detailed use ... I bought this unit because of the timer. After 3 months, when you push the play button (either remote or manually) the machine would sporadically play the CD. Usually after 2 or 3 'no disc' errors, and a power shutoff, it would eventually play. Now it's completely a 'no disc' error message. Of course, Sony's warranty person explained that it's a 90 day warranty ... imagine that! A COMPLETE waste of my money. If I'd have wanted a cheap machine to last a few months, I would have bought one. I paid extra for this one so it would last! I'll be hard pressed to buy Sony again!!!

Soooo Pleased!
I don't usually write reviews, but I'm so pleased with this machine that I'm making an exception. I was looking for something to replace my big Bose Wave radio. I relied on that for many years (broke the bank to get it), but it finally gave out. I looked into getting a new one, but they are sooo expensive. I decided to look into a Sony via Amazon, and saw a review that really caught my eye. It was from a very pleased customer who does lectures on classical music and opera and uses one of these portable machines. I'll be forever grateful to that reviewer, because I teach opera appreciation, and this machine is perfect for me! The sound is wonderful, especially with the MegaXpand and the MegaBass buttons on.

Big and a Bit Tinny
This boombox was larger than I expected and the sound quality is disappointing. You either have a tinny sound or a muffled bass sound (with megabass on), no territory in-between. I plugged it in and did a side-by-side comparison with my old boombox (which the Sony was to replace) and was surprised to find that my decade-old, off-brand boombox with the analog tuner and equalizer adjustments still sounds better to me than the Sony. Sigh - the CD player on my old one doesn't work, I can't preset radio stations on it, and I was really sure this Sony box would be a huge step up. Well, it takes up more space on the kitchen counter, but I'll probably end up keeping it anyway because eating the shipping costs to return it is too big a pill to swallow. I wish I had tried to find this unit locally to check it out before purchasing it from Amazon. (Still love Amazon tho!)
