Consider the Olympus WS series
I read many of the reviews and decided to buy an Olympus WS digital recorder/player. I used it recently to re-record a taped interview of a witness in a pending trial into the digital format. Once the conversion was completed, I loaded the file into my computer and played it. The witness's voice was very clear and so were my questions.

Not for journalists or serious voice recording
| I wish I had seen an earlier negative review about sound issues, plastic-y design, and terrible quality of recording from an analog telephone. Although I always assume that a built-in mike is usually not that sensitive, this one is worse than my old Sony cassette tape recorder. This is not a proper tool for doing archival interviews, especially not over the telephone. The built in USB is good design, but it doesn't take the place of some sort of removable media. Now that Sony is getting rid of its minidisc voice recorder, there only seems to be a Philips voice recorder out there with SD memory, but it's very expensive. I'll go back to magnetic tape recorders until the real thing comes (back) along. I bought this recorder and sent it back the very next day. I'll think twice about Olympus again. They seem to be trying for too many user types here. A music player and a voice recorder?? A good idea but bad delivery. |

Great For Dictation
I use this recorder to record my voice which I pipe through Dragon Speaking Naturally speech recognition software into a text document that I later use for word processing. It works great. It's almost as good as using the microphone connected to the computer.
