Peice o' cake!
Took mine out of the box, scan the rather oddish direction book and within one hour I had this surround sound unit hooked up to two Hi-Def DVRs for Directv, my DVD player and Xbox. I found it easiest to just hook it up and get the basics going then read the directions for fine tuning until later. I hooked up my 1st DVR using the fiber optic port (wish there was more than 1) and my 2nd DVR via the coaxial digital plug. DVD player and Xbox are hooked up through the RCA plugs. They ALL sounded GREAT with just the factory settings. I messed with the bass and trebble and a few other things just to see how nasty I could make it sound, and you can. But, just push the off button on the unit, then hold it in for 5 seconds and it resets itself to the factory settings. I also used the microphone that came with it to adjust all the speakers. After having $1000+ souround sytems before and having to go through the agonizing speaker setup, this was a true dream come true. Just plug the mic into the front of the unit, put the mic about where you'll be listing the most, push the auto adjust button on the remote and the unit sends out it's own "White Noise" to set the Level, Gain and senses the speaker distance all by itself. It even listens for ambient noise in the room, like air condtioners, air cleaners and the such and compensates for that. I found it set the speaker settings just fine and I don't think anyone could do it any better manually. Also, you have the option of setting different "types" of outputs.....stereo 2/0, Dolby 2/0, or 5.1 and others. I just set the unit on "auto detect" and it switches the reciever to whatever the native broadcast is. So if it's just stereo, that's what it kicks into and if it's full on window shaking surround sound it will change to that, once again, all by itself. All the other goodies are just pluses. All I can say is try it. Its perfect for smaller rooms. (I have ours in our 500 square foot bedroom much to my wifes dismay because of the surround speakers being dead quite for a while and then a door will slam or someone screams and it comes out of those....that's when she hits me.) Anyway, this IS a name brand and works better than I ever hoped. I hoped this help just a little. Stay away from the cheap unkown brands and buy this. I'm sold and I'm hard to please when it comes to sound systems.

Excellent System for Price.
If you want a budget home theater system for under $200 there is probably not many systems better then the Sony HT-DDW700. This system is ideal for small rooms such as a bed room or a tiny living room.
